The 2017-18 Spamalot UK & Ireland tour continues to travel, and today Selladoor Worldwide and the Wales Millennium Centre are delighted to announce that Wynne Evans will be joining the cast as Sir Galahad for the week-long stint in Cardiff (20-24 March 2018).
“I’m so excited to be joining the Spamalot cast at the wonderful Wales Millennium Centre. It’s a great feelgood show and one that I have loved for a long time. Everyone is going to come out laughing and singing the tunes! And I’m so pleased to be back at the WMC: I’ve sung in so many operas there with Welsh National Opera over the years and I’ve presented and sung concerts with many orchestras there too. It’s going to be fantastic making my debut as Sir Galahad in Spamalot in such a stunning venue!”
Evans is an opera singer, best known for the GoCompare.com series of adverts, and has performed at many major venues (including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and Opera de Lyon) as well as appearing as Piangi for the 25th anniversary performance of The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall, and released his debut album (A Song In My Heart) in 2011. He’s also known as a broadcaster, fronting his own show for BBC Radio Wales and making appearances on S4C and the BBC.
Wynne was born in Carmarthen, South Wales, going on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, then the National Opera Studio. He founded The Elizabeth Evans Trust with his brothers (in memory of their mother) and is now a trustee – the trust supports young people who want to pursue a career in the performing arts.
Spamalot is based on the hit 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and written by former Python Eric Idle; John DuPrez co-wrote the score, having previously worked on Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life. The show won the 2005 Tony Award for Best New Musical, and it has also appeared on London’s West End. It is directed by Daniel Buckroyd and designed by Sara Perks, with lighting design from David W Kidd and sound design from Chris Bogg.
Spamalot is currently touring the UK & Ireland until 19 May 2018. Tickets and further details of the tour can be found on the official website.
