This summer, Romance of the Rose Productions will bring a brand new musical to the Arts Theatre stage for a limited nine-week run. Knights of the Rose combines classic rock with classic literature to create a show of epic proportions; the likes of Marlowe, Shakespeare & Chaucer collide with rock giants Bon Jovi, Meat Loaf & Black Sabbath (amongst others).
The set list includes:
- Holding Out For A Hero – Bonnie Tyler
- Is Nothing Sacred – Meat Loaf
- Addicted To Love – Robert Palmer
- Pilgrim – Uriah Heep
- Blaze Of Glory – Bon Jovi
- Hard Times Of Old England – Steeleye Span
With Bat Out Of Hell making a comeback and Game of Thrones about to reach its climax (plus 2001 film A Knight’s Tale is available on Netflix), the time is ripe for a new musical that brings all these elements together in one place.
“Even as the chivalrous knights return from a glorious victory, a greater threat against the kingdom stirs. As they face the greatest battle of the age and betrayal threatens to tear them apart, can true love and honour triumph?”
This musical has been created by Jennifer Marsden, a qualified barrister who is a member of the Inner Temple Inn of Court, but has sustained an interest in theatre and began writing eight years ago – she’s also a member of Mercury Musical Developments and Musical Theatre Network. Racky Plews is on board to choreograph and direct; she has recently toured with Footloose and Thoroughly Modern Millie, as well as spending time on the West End with Vanities and American Idiot. The show’s designer is Diego Pitarch, whose work includes the West End run of Sunset Boulevard and the touring productions of The Addams Family and Crazy For You – he has created over 100 designs for a variety of shows worldwide.
Knights of the Rose previews from 29 June-4 July, holding its official opening on Thursday 5 July 2018 – it runs Wednesday-Saturday (7.30pm), with two-show days on Thursdays & Saturdays (3pm matinées) and a 4pm Sunday performance. Prices range from £15-£65.
