With Theatreland still no clearer about how, when or if it will return, performers and creatives are continuing to find ways to engage with audiences – utilising technology whilst adhering to the latest social distancing guidelines. The latest idea comes from Alice Fearn (Come From Away, Wicked); Intermissions will take place every Friday evening for four weeks, beginning on 17 July. It will be a live-streamed interactive experience, filmed in Alice’s garden with a three-camera setup and a small crew to keep things running.
“I wanted to create a space where we could keep theatre alive”
The series will feature live music, interviews, and much more. Alice will be welcoming guests onto the show to perform, ranging from West End stars to new graduates – the first names confirmed to be taking part are Shan Ako (Les Misérables, Queen of the Night, X Factor National Tour 2019) on 17 July, and Sam Tutty (Dear Evan Hansen, Once On This Island) on 24 July. More guests will be announced in due course.
“In a time where we can’t be doing what we love, I wanted to create a space where we could keep theatre alive”, explains Alice Fearn. “Intermissions is a live gig with a difference raising money for four important causes and featuring both West End stars and new graduates who are coming out into an industry that is currently quiet. I’ll be chatting to the guests and asking them how the lockdown experience has been, we’ll have live performances and so much more. The best part? It’s all from the comfort of my garden. Theatre is something that we all feel so strongly/passionately about so I’m thrilled we can make this work and can’t wait to get started on July 17th.”
£1 from each ticket sold will be donated to a charitable organisation, changing each episode – the first week will contribute to Acting for Others.
